and ID Numbers |
There are multiple account types, identification numbers,
userids, and passwords that can be used at the University
at Albany. Below is a brief description of
each. Before
any accounts can be created, you need to have
a PIN number (described below). Once
you have a PIN , we urge you to contact
us for assistance with creating your accounts.
Please call 442-2651 or

Network Accounts
In order to log onto the University network, faculty, staff,
and students will need a network account. Network accounts use
your individual NetID and password to logon to the UALBANY domain.
To obtain these accounts: Employees
of the College need to have an active HR record, and can contact
CAS Computing to request accounts. For students, faculty/staff
members will need to contact CAS Computing on the student's behalf
to sponsor the accounts.
For employees new to the University who do not have an HR record
or an active HR record, there is an expedited process with HR to have
their entry added/updated. For more information, ITS has provided the
following information:

PIN
This six-digit number is assigned to all students, faculty, and staff.
For employees the PIN will be generated once he or she has been entered into
the HR database. Student PINs are generated the day after the admission deposit
has been made and accepted.
Students and employees will need their
PIN to obtain their NetID and set/reset their
passwords for MyUAlbany, IAS, and UNIX services.
You can obtain your PIN by calling the ITS helpdesk at (518) 442-3700 or visiting the ITS Help Desk in LC-27.
Albany
ID (formerly called employee ID)
The Albany ID is a
nine-digit number generated by the University
at Albany to uniquely identify each member
of its community, including students, faculty,
and staff. The Albany ID replaces the Social
Security Number as the primary identification
number for University student and employee
records.
Net ID
Net
IDs for new faculty, staff or students will
be automatically created by the system using
the first initial of the first name, first
initial of last name and 6 randomly generated
numbers.
The
NetID is used in conjunction with a password
to access multiple electronic services such
as MyUAlbany, and the ITS UNIX cluster for
WebMail, WebCT and generating web pages. Note
that the different services use the same NetID
but require their own password.
The NetID can also be referenced as Network login or Unix login.
Email ID's
Faculty/staff may have email access through
the UNIX cluster if desired. The default email
address is netid@albany.edu. Members of the College will typically have their Unix mail accounts configured for them.
Faculty/Staff
members of the University can set an alias by selecting the "Create
Alias" option on the "request a
UNIX email account" form located on the
web at: https://maenad.csc.albany.edu/accounts/unix_emailacct.html.
An email alias is set up so that a more
personal email address can be used in place
of your netid@albany.edu. If the alias is
already in use, you will be assigned an alias
which will be a combination of first initial
and last name.
Many faculty/staff who serve in an administrative
capacity have email services through the Exchange/Outlook
server.
IAS ID
Sometimes
referred to as the "PeopleSoft"
ID, the IAS ID is used by select
faculty and staff to gain access to the IAS
(Integrated Administrative System).
We will be glad to assist you
in creating your computer accounts. Please
email cascomp@albany.edu
or call us at 442-2651 to set up an appointment.
