ITS is in the process of making e-mail aliases available to all UAlbany students. When work is complete, students will be able to choose from among several e-mail addresses based on their first name, middle name, middle initial and last name. ITS is pleased to offer this new service, as many students have expressed an interest in having their name reflected in their albany.edu e-mail address.
In order to prepare for implementation of this service, all UNIX mail services will be taken off line from 7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. During this interval Webmail, Pine, and IMAP mail services on the Unix cluster will be interrupted. Off campus e-mail delivery to the campus Exchange service will also be interrupted while work is performed. Any incoming e-mail delivered to the University will be collected and delivered when service is restored at 8:00 a.m.
The e-mail aliasing service is expected to be in place by February 27, 2008. ITS will inform the University community when it is available.
We appreciate your understanding while we make this significant improvement to student e-mail services.
ITS would also like to express thanks to the Student Advisory Board for their participation in this project.
