Logging In

Each classroom has a generic username for students and a generic username for instructors. The usernames and passwords will be emailed to you before the start of the semester. If you do not receive the email, contact CAS Computing by emailing cascomp@albany.edu or call 442-2651. If you have a UAlbany account, you can log in with that instead of the generic username. Just be sure to log out before you leave the classroom.

Logging in with the student ID or instructor ID will map the T drive. There is an icon in the applications folder called Classroom Folders that will take you to the T drive. The T drive has a folder for each class. The folders are named by the course title and call number. Please use the correct folder for your class. In each folder there is a student folder and an instructor folder. If you log on with the instructor username or your own UAlbany account, you will have read/write access to both of the folders. Students who log on have read access to the instructor folder and read/write access to the student folders.

If you have a UAlbany account, the appropriate T drive for the classroom that you teach in will be added to your login script. This means that when you log on to your computer in your office, the T drive will be mapped and available for you to use to prepare for your classes. Please do not save any confidential information here.

Please be aware that all instructors have read/write access to all class folders and all students have read/write access to all student folders. Make sure that you have backups of all files that you put in these folders and make sure that your students do the same. We haven’t had trouble in the past but there is no guarantee that your files will be there from class to class. The same goes for the hard drives on the computers. If a computer has software problems, the computer is reformatted and the software reinstalled. Any files that were not on the original installation will no longer be on the computer. All of the computers have floppy drives and some have Zip drives for saving files. USB flash drives can also be used.

All files on the T drives will be deleted soon after the end of the semester. Please make sure that you and your students save copies if necessary.
